Pole-axed

Here is a Pole with a pole who got stopped by Polish Police:

The story is here. And here is a close-up:
It is apparently a Fiat Cinquecento - one with a knackered rear axle.  At least he's helpfully tied a hi-vis jacket to it so that you can't miss it.  Should have tried it with a Polestar.

Those wacky Poles eh?

You wouldn't catch anyone in Britain being that daft.

Would you?
He should have spread the carpet out - that would have hidden the boring SUV.

The Electric Dipole Moment

The definition of "The electric dipole moment" is "the exact time that you decide to drive from the North Pole to The South Pole in an electric car"

Although Wikipedia have another definition.

Which may be slightly more correct than mine.

Anyway, The BBC have this story about a couple from Aberdeen who have decided to drive from the North Pole to The South Pole in an electric car.

Here they are with it:

And here is their Website.

They are Chris and Julie Ramsey, not to be confused with Chris and Rosie Ramsey who aren't even from Aberdeen.

Now the bleeding obvious question is:

HOW THE HELL DO YOU CHARGE IT?

Well, apparently, you tow a trailer with a wind turbine and full double solar panel device on it.

I really want to see this trailer - but there aren't any pictures anywhere at all - at least that I can find.

So the only thing that is certain is - it will be cold:

Really cold.

Boring, Yawning Doppelganger

Electric SUVs.  They do tend to look alike.  Here's the BYD Atto 3:

Does look very much like the rest doesn't it?

Especially from the side - the rear has an interesting twist that nobody seems to like:
According to the rear of the car, BYD stands for "Build Your Dreams" - seems quite naff.

To me, BYD is the Welsh word for "World" so this is a World Car.  Just not as good as a Mondeo.

But to Auto Express, that slogan is the only thing that Steve Fowler of Auto Express and his family really have against the car.

Similarly, and I hate to admit to having been impressed myself, but Jonny Smith of The Late Brake Show was also quite impressed.

Apart from that slogan of course.

It is an excellently detailed review that Jonny does and I have to say I was almost won over by this boring SUV - although maybe the funky interior goes too far in the un-boring direction - too interesting perhaps?

Meanwhile, the Germans don't want to be outdone by The Chinese (BYD are Chinese) so have added something funky to their boring VW ID. 2all concept car which is electric and looks like a compact SUV (I can't tell if it is one or not from the photo)

As Hagerty report, they will have retro-style instruments:
Very Whimsical.

Two Horse-Power Police Chase

I don't think Police Horses have blue flashing lights and there isn't much to go on with the footage from this Police chase in Bristol so I wonder a) How did they actually stop him? and b) What would you do if you saw a couple of horses approaching you in your rear-view mirror?

Meanwhile, in Manchester (admittedly 2 years ago) we have this Police Horse who has taken a shining to a traffic cone.
The story (and video) is here.

Meanwhile, in The San Joaquin Valley (California) there is an Ezra Dyer story (with a video) that has absolutely nothing to do with Police or horses.

But it allows me to use the line...

DROVE MY CHEVY INTO THE LEVEE.

Three Weeks Worth of News

I didn't post anything last week so here's something that tickled my fancy last week, something that tickled my fancy this week and something that will  tickle my fancy next week.

From last week, it's my favourite American car site Car+Driver with this story about Ford hoping to be able to get their vehicles to repossess themselves when the payments are not forthcoming.

From this week, it's my favourite Australian car site with this story of a couple of men old enough to know better, one Dutch and one Belgian who appear to have hired a couple of Ferraris in Italy that they clearly didn't have the skills to drive at speed.  This is a very spectacular video and they will be picking bits of debris from that swimming pool for years to come:
From next week, I give you the new series of Wheeler Dealers.  It looks like they are doing a Triumph Dolomite Sprint - well, they were never going to do a 1500HL like I used to own - but a Sprint is good too.  The Facebook Trail is here.  Surely they can't be serious?  Well they are.  And don't call me Shirley.
